The Beginners Guide For Weight-Lifting

Sharing is caring! Help us grow the Strive community!

Today I want to talk about starting out in the gym and cover some tips that will help you feel more confident stepping foot on the gym floor.

Finding a routine in the gym can be very difficult, and it’s often a huge challenge to motivate yourself every week to keep going back.

2) Change the diet: This is so crucial to a successful programme, and it will avoid frustration from lack of progress. It’s true that you can’t really train for success if you have a poor diet, so find a diet that works for you, and adapt if it’s not working! You need to have energy to work out, and you feel so much better if you have a balanced and healthy diet. Also… Keep the foods in you enjoy, I hate it when people cut out all the food that brings them joy.

3) Make sure to lift safely and focus on technique and control before going heavy: This is so crucial, and it’s often hard to know you are doing something badly in the gym. So, film yourself or get somebody to help you during the early stages. Results will speak for themselves when you start lifting like a pro.

4) Learn from your mistakes and enjoy the process: Avoid being hard on yourself, mistakes are normal, and they always make us stronger. Try to strive for goals, and don’t expect perfection.

5) Don’t neglect rest and recovery: Muscle growth occurs during rest, not during the workout. Make sure to give your muscles enough time to recover between workouts and to get adequate sleep.

6) Seek guidance: It’s always a good idea to seek the guidance of a professional coach or trainer, especially when you are starting out. They can help you develop a safe and effective workout plan.

7)Gradually increase weight: Start light and gradually increase the weight as you get stronger. Avoid overloading your muscles and always use a weight that allows you to complete your reps with good form.

I also filmed a podcast which expands on these subjects and will help beginners grow confidence in lifting weights. This is attached so please give it a listen.
